Artist Statement:

I am a photo-based artist located in California. I am a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz with a BA in Art and a Minor in History of Art and Visual Culture. During my undergraduate career, I worked in a variety of mediums, focusing on photography, but including printmaking, painting, and drawing. I studied architecture, design, photography, contemporary, and indigenous art histories.

The camera has been a part of my life since my early childhood, and is my favorite tool for creating. A large portion of what I’m thinking about when taking photos are the way environments or objects, and our relationships to them, connect to memory. I also like to explore time, the details of everyday life, texture, shadow, and reflections in the context of the ‘photographic reality.’ My photographs reflect and document my movement through the world, both literally and metaphorically. I draw inspiration from cinematography, the built environment, and abstractions through repetition of pattern and line.

I also enjoy filling sketchbooks and creating drawings, paintings and collages. My paintings and drawings tend to reflect my interest in the figure. I am also usually abstracting my ideas through collage and mixed media art. Ballet, gymnastics, fashion, architecture, dreamscapes, and popular culture are repeating inspirations for my illustrative work.
